Moses Miles Chapter 4

Moses Miles

My Brotha. I feel the need to give you a piece of my mind....
And I bet you want to know about what, huh?
Well it's simple.
It's about justice.
You see, most people think that justice is
Fairness or Reasonableness
especially in the way people are treated and decisions are made.
And some people think that, justice is:
The Legal System or the Act of Applying or Upholding the Law.
See that just ain't true.
'Cause there is only one justice, that is legal, in the eyes of a society.
And that's because the system has control of the way justice will be performed.
You still don't get what I am saying?
Do you?
And how old are you?
Maybe 22 ... 32?
Well, let me enlighten you young brotha.
Lets take a look at our wonderful country.
According to the Census Bureau,
the estimated population of the United States is 327 million people.
There are about 37 million Black people in America.
Over one third of the Black population is incarcerated.
We could say,
that the Black male accounts for over half of the prison population.
Which would mean, in the next 20 years,
that number will probably double.
So continue to slang your rock, cane or heroin.
'Till one day, you're sitting alone, looking at the peeling olive drab walls of your future;
breathing in that stale odor of Federal rehabilitation.
What?
Do you think you will be able to obtain, a non-bios form of justice,
of which many of todays minorities, cannot refrain?
Well it's your life, young brotha.
It's your choice.
